It was so incredible meeting Jose Andres at the Philippine reception at Tatel for this year’s Madrid Fusion! Apart from his restaurants, I love what he stands for— defending immigrants ("Walls will not make America safer or greater,” he recently penned in an op-ed piece for the Washington Post); cooking to give back— most recently for the Montecito mudslide in California, and the hurricane in Puerto Rico; giving free sandwiches to government employees after the US government shut down a few days ago...He hasn’t been to the Philippines yet but he told me his brother married a lovely Filipina.
