Happy New Year! I hope that you had a restful holiday season filled with lots of love, joy, and blessings with family and loved ones. Speaking of blessings, do you know that by eating at 40 of these restaurants around Metro Manila from now until January 15, 2017, you can help fight hunger? This is because these restaurateurs and chefs have joined the global fight against malnutrition with Restaurants Against Hunger, an international campaign by Action Against Hunger, supported by the restaurant industry.
Restaurants Against Hunger was first launched in 1998 in France coinciding with the World Food Day. It has since been brought to the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Germany, Peru, Colombia and Bolivia, and now the Philippines. (It’s our 1st edition!) It brings together chefs, restaurateurs and “foodies” to channel their passion for food into a life-saving impact against hunger and child malnutrition.
Our chef ambassadors for Restaurant Against Hunger in the Philippines are Roland and Jackie Laudico; other chef ambassadors are Joan Roca (Spain), Virgilio Martinez (Peru), Raymond Blanc (UK) and Ken Hom (USA), just to name a few.
How does it work? Basically just visit any of the restaurants listed below, and order any of the DISHES THAT FEED MORE. (I’ll be sharing photos of some of them here so make it easier for you!) The restaurant then donates a portion of the profits from these “solidarity dishes” to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of malnutrition in the Philippines. (*Government stats show about 4 million Filipino children are undernourished. Of them all, 7.1 percent experience “acute malnutrition” wherein the children’s weight is low in proportion to their height. The Philippines’ chronic malnutrition rate is the worst in 10 years and the 9th highest in the world this year.)
And if you’re on social media, you can help promote the campaign by sharing a photo of you and the solidarity dish via Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag, #restaurantsagainsthunger.
