Alaverdi Monastery- Alaverdi wines- Kakheti- qvevri- clay vessel- Cheryl Tiu

The qvervi was how Georgians made wine 8,000 years ago-- and still do today! Grape juice is fermented with the grape skin in this clay pot vessel (the famous qvervi!⚱⚱⚱) buried under the earth. Just to show you how massive the qvevri is, 5 ft.0" tall me could fall in and drown in the wine!😵🍷 PS Since Alaverdi Winery is a monastery, all women are required to be covered up. They provide you the brown cloth (that I'm wearing) at the entrance. (Photo by Juliana Dever)
