MANILA: Dinner In The Sky Philippines (Only From April to May 2018)

150 feet (or 50 meters) above the ground, you quite literally have your dinner in.. the.. sky! (Photo by Jin Perez | Jin Loves to Eat)

Dinner in the Sky is finally in the Philippines… only from this April to May 2018— at Solaire Resort and Casino.  This “floating restaurant”– where you’re literally suspended midair hanging from a crane– originated from Belgium in 2006, and that year, Forbes USA named it “one of the most unusual restaurants in the world.” To date, it has “traveled” around over 45 countries, and the latest one in the Philippines was organized by MMI Live (yes the guys who brought us Bruno Mars, Ariana Grande,  Maroon 5)  in partnership with Dinner in the Sky Malaysia (their Asian HQ) and Solaire Resort and Casino.

I’m not going to lie– I am afraid of heights– and was hesitant about pushing through with this. (It’s 50 meters or 150 feet— the same height as the Arc de Triomphe in Paris!) But I decided to face my fear head on– with the help of a glass of champagne and a glass of white wine (I would have drank more but you know there’s no bathroom up there!)– and I have no doubt that you can, too!!!

Based on my personal experience, here are my answers to all the frequently asked questions I’ve been receiving in my Instagram inbox in response to my IG stories!

1) Fear (if you have it) is manageable if you DON’T LOOK DOWN!

2) The platform is super safe and you are strapped so securely. You won’t even feel anything while it’s going up or down because it’s soooo smooth.

3) No bathrooms!! But it’s only 55 minutes anyway. Make sure you use the toilet before boarding!

4) There are lockers for your bags and stuff— you’re only allowed to bring your phone and a small camera— for practical safety reasons of course– make sure you don’t drop them! Also, be practical and wear pants and shoes that won’t fall off— probably not a good idea to wear slip-ons or mules here!

5) The experience begins at P9,990 for a 4-course meal (juice and water only)– that’s economy class. You can upgrade to business class, priced at P14,990, which is a 5-course meal which has the addition of 1 glass of champagne at the lounge, and 2 glasses of wine (1 in lounge and 1 during meal); and first class,  priced at P24,990, which is a 5-course meal, inclusive of free-flow champagne at the lounge, free-flow wine (lounge and air), 6 pieces of fresh oysters from Finestra, and 8 pieces of The Patisserie Signature chocolates. *Ours was prepared by Chef Hylton Le Roux of Solaire’s Waterside Restaurant.  They change chefs/ restaurants every week. For the  schedules and menus, click here.

6) There are 2 seatings per night  (with only 22 seats per flight): 5:30PM and 7:30 PM. I recommend the former because you get to catch the sunset. You have to be there 30 minutes before for briefing. Don’t be late!!! They won’t wait for you because they have a schedule to follow.

7) Overall, Dinner in the Sky is one that you’ll go to for the novelty and experience, above anything else!
