Still so surreal to have met Nobu Hospitality partners, Hollywood actor Robert De Niro and Mr. Nobu himself, Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, earlier this year at the National Museum 🙂 <3
We were so honored to have been invited to a special dinner hosted by Belle Corporation Vice Chairman, our uncle Willy Ocier, for his (advance) birthday at Nobu restaurant last night.
Here is a photographic documentation of the fun night we had– and what you can expect on your visit to Nobu Manila! It’s open to the public already– but just for dinner in the meantime! (For reservations, phone +632 662 1900)
The “bar” area by the entrance.. hmm I don’t know why everyone stopped to look in this direction! The sushi bar at Nobu ManilaThe outdoor area (it looks out to Pangea) at Nobu Manila is so pretty! At the helm of the Nobu Manila kitchen is chef Zac Hillberry, from Nobu Las Vegas! This is an old photo of him I snapped last January (as I was unable to take a pic of him last night)– but he looks exactly the same– like no time has passed! 🙂Nobu has his own sake which is served only at Nobu hotels and restaurants so why not give it a try? This Nobu Sake Junmai Daiginjo is medium-bodied with floral notes, and is about P1,335/ masu; P1904/ 300ml bottle; P3,192/ 500ml bottle; P7,150/ 1.5ml bottleAnd for wines, I highly suggest Nobu Matsuhisa’s namesake wine. He has a Matsuhisa chardonnay from the Russian River, but I much prefer this 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. I don’t think they serve these outside of Nobu hotels and restaurants as well.King Crab Tacos to start! Yummy and so glad they use our local lime, calamansi!Yellowtail Sashimi with Jalapeno that gives it a bit of a kickSuper fresh Sashimi Salad.. perfect for those on a diet or who just want to eat cleanKing Crab with Amazu Ponzu.. love that the sauce is already underneath, and it was very light and delicate, and not cloying at all. Chico Sy really, really liked this! This was the first of my Top 3 favorites at Nobu Manila: Alaskan Black Cod with Sweetened Miso Sauce <3..And then THIS came along! The Wagyu Ribeye Yakimono with white truffle sauce is the BEST thing here! I was being ghetto and used my chopsticks as “knife” (1 stick) and “fork” (the other stick) and the meat was so soft and tender, it fell apart! Unfortunately, the price is also going to kill you, eep!Assorted sushi platter to end the mealAnd my 3rd most favorite was dessert– we had the Miso Cappuccino which is FANTASTIC! You have to dig all the way to the end, where underneath the froth and cream, you will unearth what tasted like candied walnuts. Everyone at our table loved it, especially my sister Clarisse! She was so happy!Fun fun night with these peeps! Standing: Carlo Mendoza, Mischel Ocier, Chico Sy, Eric Uy; Seated: Sher Sy, Valerie Dy Sun, me and Isabelle Ocier. My brothers Charles and Chris and I with our beloved host and birthday celebrant, Uncle Willy Ocier!Uncle Hans and Hans Sy Jr. (hehe) and Auntie Carol Sy!Uncle Rikki and Auntie Beng DeeChico and Sher SyClarisse and Chris TiuHoward Sy, Jessica Lee, Mischel Ocier, Carlo MendozaHad a quick tour of the rooms last night and was very happy to see the first Nobu Hotel in Asia carries the Philippines’ #1 luxury magazine, Lifestyle Asia, in its rooms! 😀
